Virtual Woodwind Academy
Make virtual music with us this summer!
YOU have been virtual for over a year! Ensembles and concerts have been cancelled and postponed. Last year, we created our program to make collaborative music online and had a BLAST! We taught and performed virtually with people from all over the world and re-invented how music making can be done. Join our community this summer during our three-day online workshop to create that musical community you’ve been missing - one that is flexible, fun, and can survive another pandemic.

“Ana and Amanda have created a virtual academy that offers one of the best all-inclusive woodwind experiences in the country. They are both high-profile performers and educators who are masters of their craft. All serious musicians should SERIOUSLY take advantage of the opportunity to participate in one of these camps.”
- Christian Howes, founder of Creative Strings Academy
The Virtual Woodwind Academy was founded by professional musicians and educators Ana Nelson and Amanda Dame in the summer of 2020. We were brought together by our love of collaborating virtually and wanted to teach others how to do it! Our mission is to bring music and education to students of all ages and backgrounds through masterclasses, summer programs, and courses in jazz and classical genres. We are both high-profile artists who received education at the nation’s most prestigious music conservatories, including the Oberlin Conservatory, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

"Amanda is an innately gifted musician. Hers is a compelling and unique voice on the flute. Amanda is also a force in education broadly and especially with flute, leaving a trail of totally devoted students in her wake! I strongly recommend seizing any opportunity to work with her."
– Alexa Still, International Soloist and Flute Professor at Oberlin Conservatory
-“Ana Nelson is a remarkably thoughtful and talented musician who is highly accomplished as a performer and teacher. I am positive that her work with her newly launched summer program would provide students with a steady source of positive energy and musical leadership. Congratulations Ana as well to all the students that will be working with you!”
-Richard Hawkins, Professor of Clarinet, Oberlin Conservatory of Music
“If you want to study with a nationally recognized instructor don’t move to New York; Ana Nelson is right here. Her jazz chops were praised by Wynton Marsalis, she is the horn coach for the IU Soul Revue, and she is a doctoral student in clarinet at the IU Jacobs School of Music.”
-Michael Squires, Student and Woodwind Academy 2020 Participant
"Amanda has a warm, patient and supportive style of relating with students that was evident and is admirable."
-Clinician at the Sheppard Pratt School

-Angela, Parent of student
“Amanda is a patient and kind teacher who allows for her students to grow at their own pace. Her instruction is based on her own learning and practice. A truly wonderful flutist!”
